As part of my PhD at university, I take the opportunity to get involved in academic and professional research life by serving as a member of various committees.
The IBIS Student Committee is responsible for organizing the IBIS Student Day, an annual event during which the institute’s students are celebrated and given a day to present their projects. I have been a member since 2024 and served as co-chair in 2025.
The FFGG Student Committee is responsible for organizing the annual FFGG conference, which spans two days and allows the faculty’s students to present their work. I have been a member since 2026, serving in the communications role.
The Quebec Plant Protection Society (SPPQ) Committee discusses all initiatives undertaken by the society, such as the conference, the journal, and student scholarships. I have been a member since 2024 and have served as the student representative since 2025.
In addition to my PhD project, I also work as a teaching assistant for various professors.
In the course “Structure and Functioning of Woody Plants,” I am responsible for the statistics portion, assisting students, as well as grading exams and lab reports. I also provide occasional support in the laboratory and serve as a reference to answer students’ questions.
In the course “Forest Pathology,” I am responsible for grading exams and giving a brief presentation of my project to illustrate to students what a PhD project can entail, while also introducing them to a forest disease not yet present in Canada.
In addition to my research work, I often volunteer in activities related to science or education.
I am notably a member of a non-profit organization called Initiascience, serving as Director of Mentee Recruitment since 2025. This organization aims to give Cégep and high school students access to research and the scientific community. Selected students participate in a one-year research project mentored by a young researcher and present their work at a symposium at the end of the school year. I also take part in organizing an activity as part of the 24 Hours of Science event. This free, public activity allows families to explore science in a playful way by following a story and solving a mystery. For more information, feel free to visit our website.
Finally, I have also provided occasional support at various science outreach events, including the initiative “Microbes for All,” which offers science communication to elementary and high school students about microbial activities.
